The quartet is titled “Quartett Serioso” and the third movement is to be played “Allegro assai vivace  ma serioso”. Beethoven dedicated his quartet to his friend Nikolaus Zmeskall, a cellist and officer in the Hungarian Court. The first and third movements are filled with fast, brutal motifs, unison Fortissimo bangs and runs.
