Beethoven’s famous “Archduke Trio” (for Piano, Violin and Cello) No. 97 in B Flat Major, was composed in 1811. The “Archduke Trio” was dedicated to Austria’s Archduke Rudolph, who was Beethoven’s Patron and friend. Beethoven dedicated several compositions to Archduke Rudolph and the “Archduke Trio” is considered one of Beethoven’s best works. Beethoven himself played the piano at the work’s premiere in 1814. In the 2nd Movement “Scherzo (Allegro)” (short and fast) Beethoven composed a beautiful “dolce” (sweet) motif against the typical Beethoven “heavy-metal” style pounding Fortissimo motif.
