"Taps" is a bugle call and is one of the world's most recognizable melodies played as a signal for a military “Lights Out” bugle call to mark the end of a day and at memorial ceremonies and funerals. “Taps” melody was arranged by General Daniel Butterfield, a Medal of Honor recipient, in 1862. Butterfield wanted to replace the outdated earlier bugle call titled “Scott Tattoo” used in the military in 1835. “Taps” soon became used in military ceremonies and funerals.
