This song was composed by Marc Soucy in 1982, and played here live by Antartica in 1983.
The title "Charlie Backwards" refers to the fact that Marc's main piano theme is reminiscent of the Charlie Brown theme …only played "backwards". Jeff's remarkably inventive bass line and Ray's seamless transitions between time signatures, both contribute a lot to this piece.
Charlie Backwards exudes so much forward energy, it felt to me like riding a bobsled down a high speed track. This seemed like a good concept for the production of the music video.
A little humor is included, initiating what would become the "Antartica Mythology" which continues to unfold in the coming videos.
