Niccolo Paganini (1782-1840) was called "The Devil's Son" and "Witch's Brat" for his demonic and amazing violin virtuosity!  Audiences thought Paganini made a pact with the devil to be able to perform supernatural displays of technique on violin! Paganini composed "Moto Perpetuo" ("Perpetual Motion"), Op. 11 in 1835, which is considered the fastest and most difficult work in the violin repertoire. "Moto Perpetuo" is famous for its fiendish violin technique demands, non-stop bowings, runs and jumps. "Moto Perpetuo" was not even published when Paganini died in 1840. In 1851, the work was published, but it wasn't until the 1900's that this virtuoso showpiece became famous and was added to the repertoire of the virtuoso violinist. As the world's first guitar and violin double virtuoso, Paganini was known for dressing in all black and encouraged people to think that he WAS POSSESSED BY THE DEVIL to be able to perform such supernatural displays of technique!
