“Beethoven's Für Elise” was composed on April 27, 1810 (Bagatelle #25) and posthumously discovered, causing intrigue throughout Europe as to the identity of "Elise." Some thought it referred to "Therese," one of Beethoven's students and beloveds or possibly the opera singer Elise, whose brother sang the part of Florestan in Beethoven's only opera "Fidelio", and whom Beethoven possibly wanted to marry.
