Beethoven's famous "Piano Trio in D major Op. 70 No. 1" was known as the "Ghost" Trio and published in 1809 and dedicated to Countess Marie von Erdody. In the 2nd Movement "Largo assai ed espressivo" Beethoven uses a slow, creepy motive as his main motif. Beethoven's student, Carl Czerny allegedly came up with the title "Ghost", saying Beethoven's music reminded him of Shakespeare's Ghost scene in "Hamlet".
